State provides funds to support Youth Week events

Today marks the launch of Youth Week WA, a week-long celebration that will include workshops, festivals and activities in music, art and sport across the State.

Fifty-eight State Government grants totalling more than $81,000 will help young Western Australians aged 12-25 to participate in activities run by local governments and community sector organisations.

Up to $1,500 in individual grants boosted projects that will highlight the positive contributions of young people to the community. The grants also offered opportunities for young people to raise issues of concern and explore possible solutions.

The funding priority in 2018 was for activities involving young people in design and implementation, and to community-wide events involving partnerships with other community organisations or local governments.

WA Youth Ambassador David Castelanelli and Deputy Ambassador Philippa Bourke will promote Youth Week.

David is a young entrepreneur, while Philippa is passionate about environmental issues and mental health.  Philippa also works for the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation.

Youth Week is a partnership between Propel Youth Arts WA and the Department of Communities. For a full list of events supported by the Youth Week WA grants program, visit https://www.communities.wa.gov.au
