New mental health Recovery College model on its way

An expert panel made up of members with various backgrounds in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, will oversee the development of a Recovery College model for Western Australia.

A Western Australian Recovery College will complement existing mental health, alcohol and other drug support services, by delivering self-directed recovery and learning opportunities in a safe and welcoming environment.

The panel will be co-chaired by Joe Calleja, the former CEO of Richmond Wellbeing, and Tandi Kuwana, a registered mental health nurse. Both have more than 10 years’ experience working in the mental health sector.

Together, they will oversee the development of the Recovery College model of service for Western Australia, in conjunction with stakeholders, including the Mental Health Commission.

Community information sessions on Recovery Colleges will be hosted by the Mental Health Commission today and tomorrow (April 11). Visit http://www.mhc.wa.gov.au/recoverycolleges for more information.
