Swan River navigation channel closure starts soon

Swan River users are advised that during parts of April and May, the navigation channel between Burswood and East Perth will be closed to all vessels.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads Western Australia have advised the closure is required to enable a safe area for the construction of Matagarup Bridge.

The navigation channel closure will be implemented from 300 metres south to 300 metres north of the footbridge piers.

It is anticipated that closures will be in place for up to eight weeks, with the confirmed start date and the duration of closures, which are dependent on weather, to be confirmed.

To assist river users, signage, navigational buoys and spotter boats will be in place to keep all vessels away from the restricted area, with the closure applying to all on-water craft such as pleasure craft, small boats, kayaks and canoes.

Closure updates will be available from Main Roads’ website and the Department of Transport’s Marine Safety notification services.
