WA’s Commonwealth Games heroes farewelled on road to Gold Coast 2018

The Western Australia’s Commonwealth Games team has been farewelled as it heads to the Gold Coast for the 2018 Games.

Premier Mark McGowan joined athletes, officials, coaches and supporters at the Gold Coast Glory Athlete Farewell at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre yesterday.

The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will take place between April 4 to 15.

The 28 Western Australia athletes who have so far qualified in the Australian team were farewelled – representing swimming, athletics, cycling, hockey, basketball, boxing, diving, netball and shooting.

Household names such as Brianna Throssell, Caitlin Bassett and Holly Barrett will join other elite up-and-coming WA athletes looking to make their names for Australia at a home Commonwealth Games.

Last month, more than 310 Western Australians took part in the Queen’s Baton Relay, through regional WA and Perth, to officially herald the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
