Extended Easter Sunday trading for regional liquor stores

Regional Western Australian liquor stores will be allowed to open longer on Easter Sunday, as the result of a decision by the Director of Liquor Licensing.

The move means business owners will not have to apply for an extended trading permit or pay any fees.

The decision allows regional bottle shops to open from 10am to 10pm on Easter Sunday.

Liquor stores that are located within Section 64 areas will still need to apply for extended trading hours but will not have to pay the application fee.

Section 64 “allows for the Director of Liquor Licensing, where it is in the public interest, to impose conditions on licensees restricting the sale and supply of liquor”. In 2009, Section 64 was invoked to restrict sale and supply of liquor in parts of the Kimberley to help address the level of alcohol-related harm in those areas.
