Disability advocacy services to make a difference in the Kimberley

Individual advocacy services will be available to Aboriginal people with disability in the Kimberley, providing greater access to the supports they need and enabling them to navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson has today announced that Kullari Regional Indigenous Corporation and Wunan Foundation will deliver services in the West Kimberley and East Kimberley regions respectively.

They will support Aboriginal people with disability to choose how they want to participate and contribute to their communities, and improve their access to supports that meet their individual needs and goals in culturally appropriate ways.

Individual advocacy supports people with disability by:

  • Promoting independence and social economic participation;
  • Promoting choice and control to enable people to pursue their goals; and
  • Providing advice to work through an issue affecting the person or directly advocating on behalf of or with the person, where appropriate.

The organisations were selected following a registration of interest process.
