Young people from a number of Western Australia’s cultural and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities will converge on Langley Park for the Football West Harmony Week Football Festival exhibition tomorrow (March 17).
The teams will represent 10 local communities including the Somalian, Chinese, Turkish, Nigerian, Tanzanian, Karen, Mauritian, Bangladeshi, Saudi Arabian and Ethiopian communities.
Consisting of both male and female players, these teams will take part in small-sided games in a round-robin format and share experiences with players from different cultures and community groups.
The project will also give participants opportunities to get involved with local clubs in their area, and take part in skill development programs and other participation opportunities through coaching and refereeing.
The McGowan Government is proud to support the Football West Harmony Week Football Festival with $3,000 through the Office of Multicultural Interests’ Community Grants Program.
The football festival is one of the many events happening around the State to mark Harmony Week, an initiative of the State Government. Harmony Week gives everyone an opportunity to explore and celebrate Western Australia’s wealth of cultural, faith, linguistic and ethnic diversity.
Harmony Week runs from March 15 to 21.
