1,500 aged care beds to be created

Aged care development opportunities assisted through land transfers, rezonings, develop approvals and State Government land projects are expected to create another 1,500 aged care beds across Western Australia in the coming years.

The latest sites to benefit from the State Government’s policy are Lesmurdie in the Perth Hills and Emu Point near Albany, which have been earmarked for revitalised aged care developments.

Two lots at Sunshine Park in Lesmurdie and two at Gwen Hardie Lodge in Emu Point have been transferred to Burswood Care Pty Ltd, on the provision they will be used or developed for aged care facilities.

Under the Deed of Consent, signed by Lands Minister Rita Saffioti, Burswood Care must refurbish and improve the current facilities of three of the four lots within three years.

One of the lots in Lesmurdie is an undeveloped site where a new aged care facility will be constructed within seven years.

An aged care working group was established in January to continue the commitment to fast-track the availability of State-owned land and property for aged care facilities.

The group includes Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes, and representatives from key State Government departments.
