Mandurah community to share ovals with new school

Families living in the City of Mandurah will soon be able to benefit from multiple ovals, which will be constructed this year for the new public secondary school in Lakelands.

The ovals will be built on land near the school – which is currently under construction – and will be shared by the City of Mandurah and students when the school opens in 2019.

The City of Mandurah will also provide funding for additional facilities for community members which will complement the recreational areas.

In addition to shared-use ovals, the secondary school in Lakelands will have facilities for students with disability including a hydrotherapy pool; a sports hall and fitness centre; a technology learning area; 10 science laboratories; performing arts classrooms; and digital media facilities.

Year 7 students will be the first to attend the school. It will open with capacity for 600 students and will grow by 2022 when the second stage of construction is complete, allowing for a total of 1,500 students from Years 7 to 12.

The second stage of construction will include a lecture theatre, 26 additional classrooms, and three classrooms specifically for students with disability.
