Members of Parliament’s pay frozen until 2021

Legislation to freeze the pay of Members of Parliament and Western Australia’s most senior public servants has successfully passed through the Legislative Assembly.

The pay freeze until 2021 will be applied to the government’s most senior positions including the Governor; all Members of Parliament including the Premier and Ministers; clerks and deputy clerks of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly; judicial office holders, including masters of the Supreme Court and magistrates; the Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission; government CEOs and statutory office holders.

A key measure to assist with budget repair, the pay freeze is expected to save taxpayers $16 million.

Premier Mark McGowan announced the freeze last May, as part of the State Government’s wages policy for the public sector.

The wages policy provides an increase of $1,000 per year for all public servants including teachers, nurses and police officers.
