Man blows three times over limit after trying to evade police

A man has been charged following a crash in Naval Base last night, Thursday 15 February 2018.About 6:30pm the traffic officers were driving a marked police vehicle south on Rockingham Road when a blue Holden Commodore approached them from behind and overtook them. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however it will be alleged the driver failed to stop and accelerated away.

After initially losing sight of the vehicle, the officers came across a crash at the intersection of Rockingham Road and Anketell Road, in Naval Base, involving the same blue Holden Commodore and another vehicle. A 31 year old man was arrested and it will be alleged he failed a breath test, recording a reading more than three times the legal limit. He was issued an Immediate Disqualification Notice.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 25 year old man, was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital after receiving a laceration to his head in the crash. His passenger, a 51 year old man, was taken to Rockingham General Hospital as a precaution.

A 31 year old man from Leda has been charged with Fail to Stop and DUI. He is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on Tuesday 6 March 2018.
