Arson charge over Canning Vale scrub fires

Detectives from the Arson Squad’s Strike Force Vulcan have charged a 15 year old boy in relation to deliberately lit scrub fires in the Canning Vale area.

Around 9:35pm on Sunday 4 February 2018, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) were called to a scrub fire on Admiralty Road Reserve.

DFES extinguished the fire which burnt approximately five square metres of native shrubbery.

A male teenager was seen running from the scene and he was detained by a member of the public until police arrived.

It is further alleged the boy lit several other fires in the Canning Vale area between Friday 2 February and Sunday 4 February 2018.

The boy from Canning Vale has been charged with six counts of Lighting or Attempting to Light a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage. He is due to appear before the Armadale Children’s Court today, 5 February 2018.

Inquiries by Strike Force Vulcan officers are continuing.
