Record number of students back to school across WA

Almost 500,000 students from kindergarten to Year 12 are expected back at public, Catholic and independent schools across the State for the start of the 2018 school year today.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today visited Highgate Primary School, whose students are among the 305,000 students expected to start the new school year at 809 public schools.

Students at Highgate Primary School will benefit this year with existing classrooms being transformed into science laboratories. Highgate Primary School was among the first 100 schools selected as part of the $17 million investment to prepare students for the jobs of the future.

The WA Government is investing a record $3.6 billion in funding to public schools, as part of the largest-ever allocation of funding for education – more than $5.1 billion in 2018-19.
