Man charged with online child exploitation charges after US Intel tip off

A 29 year old man will appear before Albany Magistrates Court today (Wednesday 31 January 2018), charged with child exploitation offences.
In June 2017, WA Police received information from a police department in the United States regarding the alleged online activities of a West Australian man.

Albany Detectives commenced an investigation and subsequently a search warrant was executed at a residence in the Great Southern area on Tuesday, 30 January 2018. A number of electronic devices were seized and police are continuing to analyse information from the seized devices.

It will be alleged the man communicated with a 14 year old girl through electronic means, seeking to groom her to engage in sexual activity.

The man has been charged with:

  • Involved a Child in Child Exploitation;
  • With Intent to Commit a Crime, Showed Offensive Material to a Child under 16 years; and
  • Encourage a Child of or over 13 years and under 16 years to do an Indecent Act.
