Bridge in Belhus to receive major upgrade

Works are now underway to upgrade an ageing bridge on West Swan Road over Ellen Brook, in Belhus in Perth’s north-east.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Barnaby Joyce said the Australian Government would provide $1.26 million to the $2.05 million upgrade, comprising $800,000 from the Roads to Recovery Program and $460,000 from Financial Assistance Grants.

“This project proves the value of our Roads to Recovery program, which is providing a significant portion of the funding for this project. Early works are already underway and we’re looking forward to seeing the new bridge take shape,” Mr Joyce said.

Western Australian Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti said the bridge over Ellen Brook was built in 1959.

“These improvements will significantly increase the overall lifespan of this structure, which is used by an average of 14,000 vehicles per day,” Ms Saffioti said.
