Government grants available to help reduce waste

The WA Government is offering $1 million to support projects that divert waste from landfill.

Announcing the funding today, Environment Minister Stephen Dawson has called for projects that champion better waste management practices and improve awareness of the need to reduce waste.

The Community and Industry Engagement program is an opportunity to gain financial backing for projects that address the State Government’s waste management priority areas, including minimising food and plastic waste and improving the use of recycled construction and demolition products.

Previous funding recipients include the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s bin tagging program – highlighting what can be recycled through the city’s kerbside collection service – and Curtin University’s research into the use of recycled aggregate concrete.

The funding – from the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account – is available for community groups, industry, local governments, regional councils, State Government agencies, peak bodies, and research and educational institutes.

For more information on the Community and Industry Engagement program or to apply for funding, go to the Waste Authority’s website. Applications close at 12pm on Monday February 12, 2018.
