Boy, 11, arrested after fires in Norseman

Esperance Detectives have charged an 11 year old boy as a result of their investigation into two fires that occurred in Norseman on Thursday 4 January 2018.

It is alleged around 8:15am the boy set fire to clothing and other items lying on the rear lawn of a vacant property on Angove Street. The fire burnt a large area of lawn and various sundry items.

It is further alleged around 10am, he entered the rear toilet block located on Prinsep Street where he lit several matches and threw them into a plastic rubbish bin.

Fire Brigade officers were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to other parts of the building.

The boy from Norseman has been charged with two counts of Criminal Damage by Fire and is next due to appear before the Kalgoorlie Children’s Court on 23 January 2018.

Esperance Detectives continue to investigate a suspicious fire that occurred around 9:40am on Wednesday 3 January 2018 at a home located on Dodd Street in Norseman.
