A man will face court today charged with various offences as part of an ongoing joint agency investigation into alleged identity crime offences.
The Identity Security Strike Team (ISST), a multi-jurisdictional initiative between the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the NSW Police Force (NSWPF), investigates high level, complex identity fraud and related security matters under both Commonwealth and State legislation.
In June 2017, the ISST commenced Operation Loa to investigate targeted mail theft, mobile telephone porting, and identity takeovers enabling large-scale fraud across Sydney.
ISST officers have previously charged six alleged members of the syndicate. They remain before the courts.
About 11.20am yesterday (Tuesday, 12 December 2017), a 43-year-old man was arrested by ISST officers on George Street, Parramatta.
He was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with two counts of dealing with identity information, fraud, and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.
The Guildford man was refused bail, to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday, 13 December 2017).
Investigations under Operation Loa are continuing and further charges are expected.
