Western Australians with disability have been given greater surety that they will receive the support they need, with the Commonwealth and Western Australian governments today announcing that WA will join the nationally delivered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Today’s agreement replaces the bilateral agreement signed in late January 2017 by the previous State Government for a Western Australian administered NDIS.
It ensures Western Australians with disability, as well as their families and carers, now have certainty of the future of the NDIS in the State.
From July 1, 2018, the National Disability Insurance Agency will assume responsibility for the delivery of the NDIS in WA. The NDIS will continue to roll out on a geographic basis and will be fully rolled out across WA by 2020.
People already taking part in the WA NDIS will transfer to the nationally delivered Scheme in a phased approach commencing in April 2018 which will be concluded by December 2018. They will be contacted by the WA Government to advise them of the decision and the next steps to be taken.
