Mining Emergency Response Competition commences

The seventh Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC) will be held today and tomorrow (November 25-26) at Langley Park in Perth.

A total of 15 Western Australian teams will showcase their expert response skills in real-life emergency situations including firefighting, road crashes, vertical and confined space rescue, and handling hazardous materials.

These scenarios provide invaluable training, skill development, networking and community recognition to volunteer rescue teams that assist remote mine sites during emergencies.

The teams will represent Fortescue Metals Group, Newmont, Rio Tinto, Synergy, Karara Mining, Anglo Ashanti, Premier Coal and Northern Star Resources.

The competition winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Sunday night at Crown Perth.
