Queens Baton Relay to Share the Dream in Perth City

With only three months until its arrival in Perth, the City of Perth streets and icons which will be included in the Queen’s Baton Relay on 24 February have now been revealed.

In the lead up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018), the Queen’s Baton will travel to all Commonwealth Nations and Territories and is set to arrive in Australia on 24 December, beginning its 100-day national journey in Brisbane.

Deputy Lord Mayor Jemma Green said the Queen’s Baton would be carried through East Perth and the heart of the city, ending with a community celebration at the Supreme Court Gardens.

“The Queen’s Baton Relay is a longstanding Commonwealth Games tradition that celebrates community pride and highlights the important role sport plays in connecting the nations and people of the Commonwealth,” Dr Green said.

“The Relay will give Western Australians a chance to become a part of history as the Batonbearers carry the Baton past well-known city landmarks such as Riverside Drive, St Mary’s Cathedral, Elizabeth Quay and The Bell Tower.”

Last month, the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Committee (GOLDOC) announced the successful batonbearers across Australia, with high profile Western Australian Nat Fyfe among those who will carry the Baton through the City of Perth.

On the Western Australian leg of its journey, the Baton will travel through greater Perth and visit destinations such as Rottnest Island, Kings Park, the new Perth Stadium and Perth’s iconic beaches.

The Queen’s Baton will arrive in the City of Perth on Saturday 24 February, with a community celebration event to be held in the Supreme Court Gardens after the relay.
