New specialist training facility in Munster has extra edge

Stage 2 of South Metropolitan TAFE’s Munster Campus was officially opened this week.

The $12.4 million world-class facility is aligned with industry training requirements and gives students hands-on experience in a real-life industry setting.

Students will have access to specialist electrical engineering and mechatronics laboratories, dedicated Navy training spaces and materials testing areas.

A specialised process plant control room simulation, debriefing and communications rooms have been developed alongside office space for industry partners, enabling students to directly engage with industry.

The new facility is co-located with the Australian Centre for Energy and Process Training (ACEPT) – a purpose-built oil and gas facility and process plant supported by Shell, Chevron, Woodside, Quadrant Energy, ConocoPhillips and BHP.

More than 750 students will attend the campus from 2018, including 450 applied engineering students from the amalgamated Beaconsfield campus and 108 Australian Navy students.
