Ministerial Youth Advisory Council’s first meeting kicks off reform

The reform of youth services in Western Australia was top of the agenda for the inaugural meeting of the Ministerial Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) today.

The 16 members of the council, aged between 15 and 25, used the meeting, facilitated by Youth Minister Peter Tinley, to initiate feedback on the Better Choices: Youth in WA discussion paper released by the WA Government earlier this month.

The discussion paper, a call to action for young Western Australians and youth service providers, is designed to inform the design and development of a co-ordinated Youth Strategy.

Today’s MYAC meeting was the first in a series of planned consultations with young people, youth services providers and government agencies that will take place this week in both Perth and regional WA.

Organisation is already underway for a Youth Summit that will be open for public registration and held in Perth on December 5, 2017.

This week’s consultations and the wider feedback made during the discussion paper process will inform the McGowan Government’s five-year Youth Strategy and three-year action plan for the improvement of WA’s youth support services.

The 16 members of the MYAC – established by Mr Tinley – were selected for the diversity of their individual backgrounds, experience, skills and ability to represent the views of young Western Australians on a wide range of issues.
