WA Government commends university students

Acting Asian Engagement Minister Rita Saffioti has congratulated Perth’s Murdoch University students Adam Kinnest and Tristan Ward for having the most innovative idea at the 2017 Young Entrepreneurs Pitch Night.

Held at the Australian High Commissioner’s Residence in Singapore last week, Mr Kinnest and Mr Ward triumphed over two other teams from Murdoch University’s Singapore campus.

The Murdoch students were tasked with identifying a problem in their community and developing a creative real world solution.

They presented their ideas to representatives from business, health and government.

Dubbed Team Kiwa Tech Wear, the duo developed a high-tech device to help reduce the number of falls for elderly people and others with low mobility by incorporating innovative wearable technologies.

The team won $3,000 to be used as start-up capital at the event’s partner Gemstar Innovation Centre of Excellence in Singapore, and $5,000 to be spent on accommodation and travel at the Commonwealth Bank Australia Innovation Lab.
