Discussion paper encourages youth to give their choice a voice

Youth Minister Peter Tinley today challenged young people aged 10-25 and community service providers to have their say on the future of youth services in Western Australia.

The call to action came during the launch of the Better Choices: Youth in WA discussion paper – a landmark document designed to start a State-wide discussion on how best to reform WA’s youth service system.

Recommendations and findings resulting from the discussion paper process will help inform the McGowan Government’s five-year Youth Strategy and three-year action plan for the improvement of youth support services.

The discussion paper encourages online feedback from young people and youth organisations on topics such as funding, visibility and governance of services currently supported by the State Government.

It invites ideas about how to improve the service environment within which young people make their life choices.  State Government agencies will also provide feedback to the discussion paper.

Better Choices: Youth in WA will be supported by a series of workshops for young people and youth service providers this month.

The process will culminate in a public Youth Summit, on December 5, 2017.  For more information on the Better Choices: Youth in WA discussion paper and to register for the summit, visit the Department of Communities’ website
