WA baton bearers become part of Commonwealth Games history

More than 300 Western Australians will be part of sporting history as baton bearers for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).

Premier Mark McGowan and Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray today announced the Western Australians who will carry the Queen’s Baton around the State on the 100-day countdown to the Opening Ceremony of GC2018 on April 4, 2018.

Arriving in Albany and travelling north through Perth and onto Karratha, thousands of people will get the opportunity to cheer on and see the baton as it visits local communities.

The baton will arrive in Western Australia on February 22, 2018 and will spend six days travelling through 19 communities, highlighting some of the State’s key destinations and diverse landscapes.

From young community advocates to sporting legends, the Queen’s Baton Relay recognises the achievements and aspirations of Australians from all walks of life.
