Emergency Services Minister Fran Logan said the volunteer fuel card scheme has been extended to 2020-21.
It was funded until only 2018-19 but the government has acted to keep the card in place and make it sustainable given the State’s serious financial position.
Under the scheme, brigades, groups and units can apply for $1,000 to be spent on fuel for private vehicles.
The card is a small token of appreciation for volunteers but by its nature it is not practical and needs to be reviewed.
Many volunteers have told Mr Logan on his visits to their organisations that a single card cannot be easily shared among often dozens of volunteer members.
