An action plan for the prevention of family and domestic violence in Geraldton has been officially launched.
The Community, Respect and Equality strategic action plan for family violence prevention in Geraldton seeks to address family and domestic violence in the city and surrounding areas, with a focus on primary prevention.
The action plan is the result of extensive stakeholder consultations carried out between September 2016 and July 2017, including one-on-one meetings, presentations and workshops with government agencies, service providers and community members.
The action plan was launched at today’s Community, Respect and Equality – Primary Prevention of Family Violence Summit, held in Geraldton. It was developed by Desert Blue Connect, a partnership between Mid-West based service providers, the Women’s Health Resource Centre and Chrysalis Support Services.
Among the speakers was former Sydney Swans AFL player and domestic violence prevention campaigner, Luke Ablett.
The action plan calls upon the community to call-out violence against women and promote positive personal identities, equal and respectful relationships between boys and girls, and gender equality in public and family life.
The McGowan Government recently introduced a raft of measures in the 2017-18 State Budget to reduce the unacceptable levels of family and domestic violence in the community, and provide extra services to support victims.
