Women to make up half of all Government board appointments

The State Government expects to deliver on its election commitment to increase the total number of women appointed to Government boards and committees to 50 per cent by 2019.

The Government has already boosted the number of women appointed to boards and committees from 43 per cent to 44 per cent since the election.

Launching OnBoardWA, a new website and register encouraging diverse representation on State Government boards or committees, Premier Mark McGowan and Women’s Interests Minister Simone McGurk called on women to express their interest.

Women make up about half of the Western Australian workforce and more than 70 per cent of the public sector yet are under-represented at the decision-making level.

Women on boards lead to better informed decision-making, better performance and more effective governance while also creating stronger connections with the community.

Equal gender representation also delivers economic benefits and reduces the pay gap. The OnBoardWA website hosts a range of resources to assist those wanting to contribute and is available at http://www.onboardwa.jobs.wa.gov.au
