At-risk youth to be helped to connect with their communities

At-risk youth will benefit from the opening of the latest round of Youth Engagement Scheme funding through programs which will help them connect with their community.

Applications are now open for the latest round of the Youth Engagement Scheme offered through Sport and Recreation, a division of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

In this round $250,000 is available for projects delivered by local governments and not-for-profit organisations. The projects use sport and active recreation-based pursuits to target disengaged youth aged eight to 18 years old who live in lower socio-economic areas in metropolitan Perth and regional Western Australia.

Programs will be delivered in safe environments, with experienced mentors and leaders, and offer volunteer and leadership opportunities to increase capability, build resilience and sustainability.

Entries close on October 16, 2017. It is anticipated successful projects will start in early 2018.
