ASIC releases market integrity report

ASIC has released its latest report on market integrity for the period 1 January to 30 June 2017.

The report covers ASIC’s work to help ensure Australia’s financial markets operate fairly and efficiently.

Key outcomes during the six-month period include:

The report looks at ASIC’s focus on cyber resilience, sell-side research and listing standards. It also looks at some of our key activities over the last six months in areas such as insider trading and the management of spot foreign exchange businesses.

ASIC Commissioner Cathie Armour said, ‘Market integrity affects all Australians. Well-functioning markets give investors the confidence to invest capital in businesses – helping them innovate and grow. To support fair and efficient markets, we set standards and educate stakeholders, pursue behavioural change and take enforcement action to disrupt market misconduct.’

Ongoing priorities and areas of focus for ASIC’s market integrity work in 2017 include:

  • technology and cyber resilience
  • conduct, and
  • effective capital markets.
