Adelaide and country shows bring out the best of rural South Australia this spring

It’s springtime, and that means it’s show time in Adelaide and many South Australian regional communities.

Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Anne Ruston said the Royal Adelaide Show, as well as spring shows and field days held across the State, showcased the best of South Australia’s agricultural industries and rural communities.

“I love show season,” Minister Ruston said. “The Royal Adelaide Show, now in its 178th year, is one of the biggest events of its type in the world.

“And while it’s fun to go on the rides and get a few show bags, the Show is also a great opportunity for people living in Adelaide to reconnect with their rural and regional roots, and with the farmers who put food on our tables, and in our shops and restaurants, every single day.

“Our farmers are among the best in the world, and they’re putting the best of their work on display at the Show.”

With the Royal Adelaide Show wrapping up yesterday for another year, Minister Ruston now encouraged South Australians to head for the country and check out regional shows.

“I’m also a big fan of spring shows and field days held in the country—they’re important events for rural communities and especially for our agricultural industries,” Minister Ruston said.

“Field days have been especially important, driving innovation in agriculture and helping our farmers adopt techniques and technology to improve their production and care for the environment.

“As a Renmark girl I naturally have a soft spot for the Riverland Field Days, the region’s biggest annual event, being held 15-16 September near Barmera. The whole Riverland looks forward to it every year.

“I can’t think of a better way to experience what a rural community has to offer than to visit a local spring show. They’re a really fun day out for the whole family.”
