WA Government investment to grow tourism

The McGowan Labor Government is delivering its election commitment to invest $425 million, over five years, towards destination marketing and event tourism.

The significant investment will provide funding certainty and security for the tourism industry, helping it grow and diversify the economy and maximise tourism’s impact to create jobs for Western Australians.

In the 2017-18 State Budget, an additional $36.5 million over four years has been allocated to establish a destination marketing baseline budget of $45 million per annum to grow the tourism industry with a stronger focus on bringing more visitors to WA.

An additional $50.5 million, over four years, has also been invested to establish a baseline budget of $40 million per annum for event tourism, including events arising from opportunities presented by the new Perth Stadium.

Other key tourism investments as part of the State Budget include:

  • $1.4 million for the Swan Valley Development Package, including a planning review and development of a co-ordinated strategy for the Swan Valley to provide a major boost to tourism and jobs in the area;
  • $300,000 towards a marketing campaign to promote the Ferguson Valley and Wellington Forest areas; and
  • $500,000 towards the planning and environmental studies for a new caravan park at Minninup Pool.
