The 2017-18 State Budget includes significant investment in school infrastructure, with $465 million towards building new primary schools and a secondary college, performing arts centres and the redevelopment of ageing high schools.
This investment in school infrastructure will create jobs for Western Australians and will ensure students are learning in facilities that meet modern education needs.

New primary schools will be built in high-growth areas of Banksia Grove (East), Burns Beach, Brabham, Caversham South, Baldivis East (South), Southern River South East, Forrestdale South West, Huntingdale (West) and Byford with $15.6 million allocated towards each build and a new Yanchep primary school will be built with funding of $15 million.
Major rebuilds will take place at:
- Balcatta Senior High School ($50 million); and
- John Forrest Secondary College ($50 million).
Revitalisations will take place at the following high schools:
- Canning Vale College ($2 million);
- Darling Range Sports College ($10 million);
- Kinross College ($2.5 million);
- Morley Senior High School ($1.5 million);
- Mount Lawley Senior High School ($4 million);
- Southern River College ($8.4 million); and
- Wanneroo Secondary College ($5 million).
Upgrades will take place at the following schools:
- Beaumaris Primary School ($200,000);
- Camboon Primary School ($250,000);
- Caversham Primary School ($1 million);
- Currambine Primary School ($200,000);
- Mount Hawthorn Primary School ($3.5 million);
- North Morley Primary School ($1.5 million);
- South Ballajura Primary School ($200,000);
- Tapping Primary School ($400,000);
- Weld Square Primary School ($1.5 million); and
- Yokine Primary School ($350,000).
From 2018, works will commence at the following regional schools:
- Broome Senior High School ($20 million);
- Bunbury Senior High School ($5 million);
- Collie Senior High School ($7.5 million);
- Eaton Community College ($5 million);
- Eaton Primary School ($3 million);
- Lakelands Senior High School – Mandurah ($2.5 million);
- Mount Lockyer Primary School ($3 million);
- Newton Moore Senior High School ($3 million); and
- South Bunbury Primary School ($3 million).
The 2017-18 State Budget has also enabled for the build of new early learning centres at Ballajura Primary School ($3.2 million), Kinross Primary School ($1.6 million), Glen Huon Primary School ($1.5 million) and Flinders Park Primary School ($2.5 million).
A Child and Parent Centre will be developed at Arbor Grove Primary School in Ellenbrook with a $1.75 million allocation.
Works for new performing arts centres at Ballajura Community College, Ocean Reef Senior High School, Belridge Secondary College and Belmont City College will commence from 2018, with each centre receiving $5 million in funding.
Melville Senior High School performing arts centre will be refurbished with a contribution of $4.5 million.
An allocation of $68 million for stage one of the new inner city secondary college at Kitchener Park in Subiaco will allow for construction to start in mid-2018.
Also included in the Budget is funding for an additional 120 teachers in public schools to support student learning and $12 million to convert existing classrooms to science laboratories in up to 200 public primary schools.
