Local grassroots projects have received a boost in the 2017-18 State Budget, through the WA Government’s Local Projects, Local Jobs program.
The program provides grants to community organisations, such as sporting groups and not-for-profit organisations, to deliver important upgrades to facilities and programs.
The State Budget includes an allocation of $39 million total for the program, which will go towards more than 750 projects in both the metropolitan area and regional Western Australia.
Projects that have been funded by the Local Projects, Local Jobs program to date include:
- $18,000 – Osborne Park RSL for upgrades to facilities and equipment;
- $220,000 – Save the Children trust in Armadale to assist with the One Step Closer initiative;
- $150,000 – Kiara College to upgrade science labs;
- $80,000 – Geraldton’s Pollinator’s Inc to enable rent subsidies for start-ups;
- $40,000 – Joondalup’s Patricia Giles Centre to provide assistance to victims of domestic violence;
- $80,000 – Ballajura’s Dungeon Youth Club to support staffing at the drop-in centre;
- $15,000 for the Pilbara’s Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation for fencing of a nature walkway;
- $100,000 – Darlington Sports and Recreation Association to assist with the cost of a new pavilion;
- $50,000 – Cockburn Power Boats Association to upgrade clubrooms; and
- $150,000 – City of Wanneroo to install traffic calming devices on Blackmore Avenue.
