The Minister for Human Services, the Hon Alan Tudge MP is encouraging people to get their hearing checked as part of Hearing Awareness week.
Held between 20-26 August this year, Hearing Awareness Week raises awareness of hearing loss and encourages people to have their hearing checked.
Now in its third year and with more than 7,000 hearing checks completed, Hearing Awareness Week is Australian Hearing’s national drive that calls on Australians to have a yearly hearing check-up.
Free hearing checks are at Australian Hearing centres plus mobile and pop-up hearing checkpoints specially organised to increase accessibility.
Minister Tudge said this year’s theme ‘Be a good sport and get your hearing checked’ celebrates seniors’ enjoyment of sports and activities locally available.
“Hearing loss is an important issue in the community and maintaining good hearing can have a positive ripple effect on people’s lives, including staying active and connected to others,” Mr Tudge said.
“People can visit one of 600 hearing check-points across the country this week for a free hearing check.”
“One in six Australians currently experiences some sort of hearing loss, and this figure is expected to grow to one in four by 2050, so it’s important to get clear advice and support if you or a loved one are having issues with hearing.”
“Regular hearing checks allow any changes to be noticed more easily.”
