The Australian Government has announced $1.9 million in Citizen Science Grants for five new projects.
This follows the recent funding of $4.4 million for 13 Citizen Science Grants projects.
Citizen Science supports community participation in scientific research projects that have a national impact.
Working with qualified scientists, participants collect and analyse scientific data, inexpensively and fast, and formulate questions.
This contributes to our scientific knowledge base and has the potential to spark discussion on matters of great importance to Australia.
The latest five supported Citizen Science Grants projects are:
- $499,631 for the Sydney schools weather and air quality network
- $484,770 for Wild Orchid Watch – providing insight on environmental change
- $350,275 for Galaxy Explorer Forensics: Citizen Science astronomy project
- $342,796 for National WaterbugBlitz: Citizens assessing Australian waterways
- $265,113 for Pesticide Detectives: national assessment of pesticides in waters
Citizen Science Grants are part of the Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Programme, which encourages community participation in science and technology.
