Fatal South West Crash

Major Crash Investigators are seeking information regarding a fatal crash in the South West last night, Saturday 29 July 2017.

Just before 7:30pm police received information regarding a van being driven erratically in the Treendale area. Police Officers conducted a patrol of the area and located a vehicle matching the description at a service station. The officers pulled into the service station to make further inquiries.

The van struck the police vehicle, and exited the service station onto Forrest Highway. The driver of the van headed north on the highway, failing to stop. The attempt to stop the vehicle was aborted.

The officers continued to monitor the vehicle from a distance.

The van turned off Forrest Highway onto Stanley Road. The Police Officers also turned onto Stanley Road. The van struck the police vehicle a second time, before turning back onto the Forrest Highway.

The driver of the van drove north in the south bound lanes. The van crashed head-on with a vehicle that was travelling south on Forrest Highway. At the time of the crash the vehicle was not being intercepted by police.

The female driver of the van died as a result of injuries she received in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital, with what are believed to be minor injuries.

Major Crash Investigators attended the scene and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Internal Affairs Unit detectives will also assess the circumstances surrounding the crash given the earlier attempt to intercept the vehicle.
