Arrest after West Perth unit fire

At around 11:30pm on Wednesday 12 July 2017, Police were notified of a disturbance and subsequent structural fire at a unit on Hay Street in West Perth.

Police and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) attended, finding the unit fully ablaze. Neighbouring residents were evacuated by Police as DFES extinguished the fire.

The unit was extensively damaged by the fire and the damage is valued at approximately $150,000.

Arson Squad officers attended and commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire.

On Tuesday 25 July 2017, Arson Squad officers charged a 48 year old man of no fixed address with Criminal Damage by Fire.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 26 July 2017.
